NOVAC Baton Rouge

We launched NOVAC programming in the Capital City in 2013, and since then have trained hundreds of people for creative industry jobs, as well as connected with the community, developed original documentary content and created innovative youth media programs.

Creative Industry Workforce Training

Interested in working in the creative industries but don’t know how to get your foot in the door? Whether you are newly interested in creative industry fields from film production to live events, or if you are looking to make a career change, NOVAC workshops can help you learn the basics, skill up to a new job and navigate the life of a creative professional. Our training programs include hands on workshops, on-set training opportunities, job referrals and networking events, and have been modeled in national partnerships with HBO and Ovation TV. Due to generous funding from the City of Baton Rouge Office of Community Development, our creative industry workforce training programs are free to residents of East Baton Rouge Parish; applications are required, and acceptances are limited by workshop seats.

Creative Community Events

One of the hardest parts of being a creative is that you frequently work alone, but you need to work with (and for) people. In Baton Rouge, NOVAC has partnered with local co-working and event space The Parlor, to produce Creative Connect, a monthly series of artist talks and networking.

BetteR Community Documentary Project

With support from the Foundation for Louisiana, NOVAC:BR last year launched BetteR, a documentary web series that highlights the stories of the Baton Rouge community in the aftermath of the events of Summer 2016. NOVAC:BR has created four documentary shorts, and we gave microgrants to five Baton Rouge filmmakers to create short documentary content as well. In addition, NOVAC worked with VR filmmaker Jess Kantor to create a unique virtual reality experience in response to the flooding. BetteR is still in production, with a Baton Rouge premiere event scheduled at the Manship Theater February 9, 2017. Check out our first two pieces below.
